THE Kelantan FA (KAFA) may resort to cutting their players’ salaries following the suspension of the M-League due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

KAFA secretary general, Husin Deraman said the management will meet with their players on the matter.

He admitted Kelantan have been affected financially at the gates after the matches were called off.

“We hope the players understand our situation. Without games, it has caused us to be short of funds.

“We lost about RM100,000 each time when a game is not played. The gate collections are much needed to sustain the team’s expenditure.

“We will have to meet the players and talk about the need to cut salaries. But this (reduction in pay) is only temporary... until the league resumes.”

Husin said KAFA need around RM500,000 to RM600,000 a month to manage the team.

There has been talk that clubs, affected by the M-League suspension, might cut their players’ salaries by 25 per cent.

This was brought up by UiTM Shah Alam’s sports science and recreational faculty senior lecturer Mohd Sadek Mustafa who said several teams will face financial problems if the M-League is postponed for a long period.

Sadek said the teams who are dependant on ticket sales to pay salaries, would be the most affected.
